Bogle v. Helidosa Aviation Group
On December 15, 2021, a Gulfstream IV, registered aircraft HI-1050, operated by Helidosa Aviation Group, arrived at the Higuero/La Isabela-Dr. Joaquin Balaguer Airport following a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The aircraft was scheduled to continue on to Orlando, Florida, but the Helidosa flight crew reported mechanical problems relating to the aircraft’s ground spoilers, so the aircraft was towed to Helidosa’s hangar for maintenance. Helidosa mechanics worked for three hours to replace the ground spoiler actuators on the right-hand wing. The aircraft subsequently took off for Orlando, but the aircraft’s ground spoilers on the right-hand wing were still not functioning properly, and the aircraft developed control problems almost immediately. The flight crew declared an emergency and was going to return to the departure airport, but as the situation progressed, the crew decided to divert to the Santo-Domingo Las Americas International Airport instead. While attempting to make the emergency landing, the aircraft struck terrain and crashed, resulting in the death of two pilots, a flight attendant, and six passengers. Slack Davis Sanger represented the father of one of the deceased passengers.
