Downed Power Line Results in Electrical Burn Injuries to a Child
Slack Davis Sanger recently successfully resolved a case involving serious electrical burn injuries to a 6-year-old Navajo boy living on Navajo tribal lands in the Four Corners area of Utah. Texas-based oil companies operated an oil field adjacent to the boy’s home. An electrical power pole supplying power to the field rotted and fell over, placing the energized power line just a few feet from the ground. While on a walk, the young boy grabbed the downed line, suffering serious injuries. The case had complex legal issues involving Utah law, Navajo law, Texas law, and engineering and powerline operations. Proceeds from the settlement were placed in a trust for the young boy.
